Emily Owens, M.D., estrelada pela filha de Meryl Streep, Mamie Gummer (Off the Map), une dois gêneros: o drama médico com o drama escolar. Na história, Emily é uma médica recém formada que começa a trabalhar em um hospital onde reencontra alguns dos seus antigos colegas. Mantendo o mesmo comportamento infantil de quando eram adolescentes, eles transformam os corredores do hospital nos corredores da escola.
Trabalhando no Denver Memorial Hospital, a dra. Emily tem como colegas a famosa cardiologista Dra. Gina Beckett (Necar Zadegan), Will Rider (Justin Hartley de Smallville), por quem era apaixonada na faculdade, e Cassandra Kopelson (Aja Naomi King), sua rival na época. Entre os novos colegas, Emily faz amizade com Tyra Granger (Kelly McCreary), filha de Tim Granger (Jack Coleman de Heroes), Chefe dos residentes, e com Micah (Michael Rady, de Melrose Place e The Mentalist) um dos residentes.
